Save the planet?

How noble... But does it really matter? I don't believe so. We've already pushed our environment past the point of no return. We're in the midst of the greatest species extinction the planet has ever seen. We'd have to go back to pre-20th century era carbon outputs to even begin to stabilize the atmosphere. And, the human population is pushing the limits of what the planet can support in water and arable land. Hell, we can't even come to a consensus on species invasion; Asian Carp anyone?

Going green is just a marketing scheme to sucker you hippies and technophiles on the west coast into spending your hard earned money on unsafe micro vehicles and green techie gadgets. Neither of which are truly "green". Gotta love how the aristocracy has the population wrapped around its little finger. So, it really doesn't matter if you use disposable or cloth. If you were really serious about "saving the planet", you'd use no diapers at all. But then again, I wouldn't expect that because people are too selfish to give up their convenience in order to save the environment for future generations.

About seatbelts...

You're telling me that we are so afraid of the grief death brings that we've not only become obsessed with removing all risk from our lives, but we've also become obsessed with forcing everyone else to do the same? I don't buy it. A person's inability to deal with grief is no justification for a law. I'm sorry if you can't deal emotionally with my death, but that's your problem not mine. There is no need to force me to protect me from myself!

What we elect we get...

When we elect a socialist president, we get socialism. Just like when we elected that fascist Bush, we got fascism (power based on military might). If you want freedom and democracy you need to vote for freedom and democracy, not just what appears to you to be freedom and democracy. And don't forget, freedom and democracy requires acknowledgment and tolerance of those who hold opinions you may not agree with.

Recession

I hate to be the cynic (as I usually am) and say I told you so, but... We've been overspending in this country for too long. Our longing for over indulgence simply to increase status has caught up with us. The system finally put it's foot down and said, "NO MORE, now it's time to pay!!"

Unfortunately our friendly neighborhood government seems to think that spending will solve the problem. Unfortunately again spending will only prolong our suffering. The only way out is to suck it up and sleep in the beds we've made. Pay back the debt! Then maybe in 10 or 20 years we'll have another chance to f*ck it up all over again.

But it's all good. These are the times that we innovate. These are the times to make money. As they say, when times are good save save save, when times are bad spend spend spend! In other words, save when "things" are at a premium and spend when everyone else is trying to get rid of shit in order to survive. If you're smart, you'll get rich!

Evil

There's only one thing I hate about being a homo sapiens. The instinctual drive to treat other people like shit in order to gain status. Evil is a person or people taking advantage of another person or people for purely selfish reasons. It begs to question how empty heaven will be.

Obamacare...

"...and it really would shift the place where those decisions are made from the Doctor's Office to a bunch of government bureaucrats..." - http://www.cato.org/dailypodcast/podcast-archive.php?podcast_id=902

Well, that's not 100% true Mike. It will shift the place where those decisions are made from a bunch of private bureaucrats to a bunch of government bureaucrats. What's the difference?

I wonder about that every time some asshat at the insurance company decides that one of my scripts will no longer be covered. They claim there is, what they consider, an OTC equiv. Funny though, my doctor tells me there's a difference between the script version and the OTC. Now sure, my doctor might be contractually "obligated" to say that by big pharma, but I notice a major difference in my health. He can't be all that far off. Unfortunately my insurance doesn't agree and expects me to pay for 100% of the cost of the script. $185/month so I can feel better. So, who is running things?

You go Mr. Obama! This time I take you as the lesser of two evils. Will it be any better? Probably not. But at least I finally get to screw those asshole fat cats who toiled greedily in order to make me a slave to their system.

Nope, wrong!
